My parents emigrated from Britain in the 1950s and my siblings and I were born here in Canada. We all have a fondness for the U. K., perhaps because our family tree has been traced back through my father's line to the year 1530. All generations before my father were born in Yorkshire, England which could also explain my fondness for Yorkshire puddings!
Over the next year, and starting today, England and her colonies (do they still call it that?) are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
My mother passed along these egg cups to me, they are from the Coronation on June 2, 1953:
I also have this beautiful plate which was given to me by one of my husband's aunts. It is from the Coronation of Edward VII, who was the current queen's great-grandfather (I hope I have that right):
England will be in the news for the Coronation festivities and as well for this year's Summer Olympics which will be held in London.
Anyway, on that note I have made a couple projects with the Union Jack, and will be making more.
I have a basic flag sign, made out of pine and distressed, it is 20 5/8" x 10 1/4" x 1/2" thick:
My box is made from pine with the Union Jack on top, a distressed finish and LONDON and a crown hand painted on the front. It is about 8" wide x 3 3/4" deep and 4 1/2" high:
