Products for Delaney Bay Cheese Market

There's a new place in town... a Cheese Shop!

Every variety of cheese you could imagine as well as some unique products are in this cute little store that sits on the edge of Trout Lake. The owner, Lonnie Reed has agreed to take some of my wooden items to sell.

I made two cheese boards, one is solid maple and 21 1/2" long x 5 3/4" wide and 1" thick, with a hole cut out either for a handle or to hang it by (or both!)  Here's how it looked before a finish was put on it:

And here it is while it's being coated with mineral oil, which just really brings out the grain:

The other board is maple and cherry, striped,  and is 8 1/2"  5 3/4" long x 1" thick.  Again, this shows the board without any coating:

And here it is with the mineral oil:

and a closeup:

I also made a sign for Lonnie to put inside her shop (a tutorial on how I design and paint my signs is here)

...and a sign to hang outside.  This says OPEN on one side and CLOSED on the other and hangs on hooks from the deck railing.  She wanted something visible from the road so I made a sign with very clear black letters on a white background.

Hopefully if you are in the North Bay, Ontario region you stop by when you see the OPEN sign!

Best of luck with your store, Lonnie and thank you for the orders!

  1. Julie, these are all fantastic projects. I adore the shape of the first cheese board and I like the added hole at the top. The second cheese board reminds of the one I made in Jr. high shop class, but yours is a lot nicer. lol

  5. Beautiful boards!!! I LOVE maple...anything, boards, cabinets, furniture....
A hint that we have found to be successful in our board sales...
on the narrow boards, we put a groove about a third of the way from the top, across the board and about 5mm deep. That allows the wire on the cheese cutters to sink down into the groove and make a neat cut all the way to the bottom.
Sometimes we attach a cheese cutter to the board with a ribbon, and sometimes we just sell the boards and "an explanation" :^)
Hope this is useful to you.
