Here is another project using Mod Podge. I was inspired by David at Cheltenham Road who always has fabulous projects using Mod Podge and colourful graphics. David once used a map on a lamp and I think maps have great colours and graphics and add a personal touch. Maps are great as mementoes for people who either live in the area or have travelled or married somewhere in the world other than home.
I created some 2" x 2" pine from my rough stock. Two of my holders were shellacked, and one was painted white.
The first holder I cut 4 1/4" long and drilled 7 pencil holes. The map is a local one and extends all the way around the block:
The second holder is painted white and the city map is on the top, where the 7 holes are and then continues down the front of the 4 5/8" long block:
The third pencil holder is 8" long and has 15 holes in it. The map is local and extends completely around like the first one:
So far, I've made three of these holders, but hope to sell more through my etsy shop where they can be customized to whatever place buyers choose.

Wow! those are terrific! I particularly like the one with the city map on the top. Very fun! I'm sure they will sell well on Etsy too - they are decorative, practical and the customization option will really appeal to people.

You are so cool, David, I love you!
DeleteOh these are perfect for my vintage travel theme room I'm working on which is actually a study for my husband :) Thanks for a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! That's a very clever idea.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, these pencil holders are the cutest idea. Things with maps are very popular so you will probably sell them quickly. Thank you for the comment about my childhood home. I think many people feel the way I do about their homeplace. Hope you're having a great weekend!-------- Shannon
