Over the next year, and starting today, England and her colonies (do they still call it that?) are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
My mother passed along these egg cups to me, they are from the Coronation on June 2, 1953:
I also have this beautiful plate which was given to me by one of my husband's aunts. It is from the Coronation of Edward VII, who was the current queen's great-grandfather (I hope I have that right):
England will be in the news for the Coronation festivities and as well for this year's Summer Olympics which will be held in London.
Anyway, on that note I have made a couple projects with the Union Jack, and will be making more.
I have a basic flag sign, made out of pine and distressed, it is 20 5/8" x 10 1/4" x 1/2" thick:
My box is made from pine with the Union Jack on top, a distressed finish and LONDON and a crown hand painted on the front. It is about 8" wide x 3 3/4" deep and 4 1/2" high:

Wow! Your box is gorgeous and I love your antiques from the different coronations. I'm planning on making a union jack quilt and a pillow. I have a fondness for the isles also. My heritage is Irish and English so maybe that's why. They're having a REAL celebratory year. I can't wait to watch the Olympics too!
ReplyDeleteI love your dogs. When I was growing up we raised collies but we never had a blue merle! They're both gorgeous!
Julie--that's fabulous that you can trace your roots back so far!
ReplyDeleteYour projects look great. I like union jack stuff that is distressed. When it looks new, it just doesn't look the same.
love 'em!

Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI am from Southampton in the UK, you might want to click on my blog link http://www.karenbarclay.com/everything-else/have-a-great-long-weekend/ we have a lot going on here this weekend to celebrate the Queens Jubilee. My son is lucky enough to be doing some filming for the Savoy this weekend, they have a street party outside the Savoy and the fountain has been sanitised and filled with 600 litres of a gin based cocktail for the guests to drink from. He will be staying at the Savoy so he is one very lucky person and only 24. This is his company if you want to check out some of his London videos, there is a Savoy one on there already and the street party one should appear over the next week or so.
I love looking at your blog you are very talented.
Oooops silly me here is my sons video company www.londonvideoreviews.co.uk
ReplyDeleteYou have a very interesting heritage, Julie Rose. And how wonderful that you have such special momentos that were passed down to you. By the way, I love the images of your fur babies - Twister, Billy and Cisco. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday again this week.
Blessings,
Liz @ The Brambleberry Cottage
I am so impressed! Really, really beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteLike the Union Jack flags, seems really appropriate with the Queen's Jubilee. Thanks for sharing, Laura
ReplyDeleteJulie Rose, your Union Jack pieces are really great. My grandfather moved to the states from Yorkshire when he was 28 years old. It's fun for me to celebrate my English roots, so I'm serving a Jubilee Tea at my place. Hope you'll stop in for a cup of tea. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteWow, these are great! Thanks for sharing and linking up :)
ReplyDeleteLove it--just brilliant! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe Union Jack craze is going strong - what fun!
ReplyDeleteJulie, this box is really nice, I enjoyed reading about your family background, and was amazed of how long back you have been able to trace it. I like the box very much.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, Thanks for emailing me your comment. I get a sad face when Disqus doesn't feel like working.
ReplyDeleteI love that box so much. It's a melding of two of my favorite things boxes and union jacks.
